There will be no classes for only grades EK-12 on Monday, May 6 for a professional development day, classes meet as normal at Northwood. As a reminder, a professional development day is when our staff is able to engage in important training and learning. Buildings are closed to students and parents and staff are not in their classrooms. #AmesCSD
The #tbt 1997 winter play at Ames High was Thurber Carnival. Ames High School has a legacy of many fine arts productions. What was your favorite play (or musical!) in Ames High history? #AmesCSD
We also did Thurber Carnival in the spring of '74. Hank had a legacy: my sophomore year also included Guys & Dolls & One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest – both fantastic! – & the Senior-Directed One-Acts. Then in the Summers we did 4 plays in 5 weeks; my faves there were Count Dracula '74, The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild '75 (which we reprised for the State Thespian Conference) & The Mad Gypsy '76, plus House of Blue Leaves '75 :)
I still can sing all of the songs in “Of Thee I Sing.” “Wintergreen for President! He’s the man the people choose, Loves the Irish and the Jews.”
